Is My Camera Covered by Homeowner’s Insurance?
The answer is, it depends. Not an answer people like to hear but in this case it is the truth. Because a typical homeowner’s insurance policy only provides specific coverage and limits coverage on loss and types of property, it can’t be said for sure whether your camera is covered without answering a few questions first. From the broadest aspect, your personal property coverage covers your personal items up to 50% of your home’s insured value. Within your personal property coverage are limitations for business property as well as off site property. So if you use your camera for business purpuses, you will be limited to $2500 for on-site loss and $250 for off-site losses. If your camera is worth more, then you may not have proper Camera Insurance. If your property is off-site and is for personal use, then you are only covered up to 10% of your personal property coverage for 5% of your home’s insured value.
